Mike’s parents ask him to drop out of New Directions because he received an A- in an exam (the Asian F of the episode title). This obviously causes him and the Glee Club some problems!
The auditions for the West Side Story musical are starting to hear up and get exciting with Blaine having been asked to audition for Tony. Emma’s parents are in town and for some reason, she doesn’t want Will to meet them!
Will Schuester is still trying to get New Directions in shape, and finding it an uphill struggle. He pushes Mercedes too hard at the booty camp training and she walks out. We also see that Santana is back in the Glee club again too.
Mercedes is feeling very down with herself and is convinced that she can’t beat Rachel for the part of Maria in West Side Story. Her new boyfriend, from the football team, tells her that she has to start believing in herself and that she is better than Rachel. Mercedes really listens to this advice and turns up for her audition dressed like a leading lady and blows everyone away with her performance.
Will is keen to meet Emma’s parents and Coach Beiste surprises the football time with the news he wants them all to take ballet lessons to improve their coordination.
The football team all look to Mike Change for dancing lessons, but he’s got his only problems – his A minus on a test (the Asian F). Mike’s dad is pushing him to quit the Glee Club and dancing and to start focusing more seriously on his studies. When Tina sees Mike dancing by himself she tells him he has to believe in himself and has to pursue his dreams.
To start with, Kurt doesn’t feel threatened by Brittany running against him to be class president because the polls are putting him way in the lead. However, when Brittany and her friends do an amazing girl power performance during a school assembly, it looks like she will be a much more serious threat than Kurt previous thought.
Rachel is no very worried that she will lose the Maria part in the musical to Mercedes. Emma, Beiste and Artie have decided that they need a callback audition with Mercedes and Rachel both performing the same song, “Out Here On My Own” from the movie Fame. Both do a really good performance again and seem very equally matched in talent. Rachel is worrying that she won’t get the part and decides she needs to become the senior class president which will help her get in to the performing arts college in New York she is keen on.
Kurt is very supportive of Blaine aiming for the lead role in the school musical, even though he would lose out on it if Blaine gets it. He has also decided that he must win the class president election against Rachel and Brittany because he would like to make a real difference at the school for all of the other gay students.
Will goes behind Emma’s back and invites her parents over for dinner. When she arrives home and finds them there in her house she is worried and more than a little upset. Throughout the meal, Emma’s parents, who appear rather peculiar, monopolize the conversation about their preference for red heads except for when they make fun of Emma for having OCD. Mr Schuester sticks up for Emma and accuses them of being both racist and cruel to their daughter.
At the dance studio, Mike Change gets surprised by his mother, who has come to look for him when she discovered he had skipped his tutoring session. He’s surprised to find she’s actually quite supportive and tells him that they will talk to his father together. This boost to Chang’s confidence helps give give an outstanding audition for the role of Riff.
Then Rachel and Mercedes are called in to meet with the judges about their auditions for the musical. The panel tells them they were impressed with them both and are going to double cast them, giving them both equal time on stage playing Maria. Mercedes, who’s been frustrates and angry because she thinks she’s been living in Rachel’s shadow doesn’t want the part if she’s got to share it.
Rachel isn’t happy that she got the part this way and tells Finn that she’s going to run for class president anyway and wants to win.

I love how the writers for Glee constantly use different stories into one episode and crossing them together to make a awesome episode fill with music. I also loved the part where Mike finds out that his mother is very supportive about him being in Glee, although his grades had dropped by to an A-.
